Now begins the portion of my blog career where I begin hosting discussions all about the elements of cloud.

Now you’re probably thinking, “oh jeez, not another cloud blog.”  Yes, I agree, so I have been racking my brain about how to do something a bit different.  So the vElemental blog begins, focused on the future (cloud oriented models) and the underlying technology that is driving us there.  Since my bag of tricks is a complete mess of different technologies, so too will be these blog posts.

I sometimes get asked where I came from and how I acquired the skillset that I have.  My response is typically that I have formal education in business, and a Google education in technology.  To add a little color to that statement, after the consumption of a formal business education, I undertook an informal re-education by way of The Black Swan- The Impact of the Highly Improbable and other similar books and now find myself continually thinking about scale in different ways.  My true passion comes from what I have done since very young, technology, mixed with the understanding that I have of driving significant change through scale.  Hence most recently a newly formed blog based on my desire to publish more general thoughts.

Most recently I have found myself in the position of being an enabler for a large technology company where innovation is embraced to the highest level.  My current employer is EMC Corporation working as part of the vSpecialist pre-sales organization where we specialize in everything virtualization when it comes to EMC products.  In my current position I find myself exploiting all sides of my past giving me the credibility to be allowed to dig deep with most and allowing the eventual building of a comprehensive understanding of some very interesting technologies.  Being a part of an innovation machine like EMC is to say the least, invaluable to anyone’s career if they are interested in all facets of a technology organization focused on solving customer challenges.

The focus of this site should be highly aligned with understanding, describing, and theorizing about how to accomplish things that contribute to the bigger vision of cloud.  Things discussed will be up and down the stack and across companies, from the component level innovation (chips, interfaces, etc.), product level innovation (networks, hypervisors, storage, compute, management etc.), scripting and automation (Powershell probably), and finishing off where cloud models truly benefit an organization (People, Process and Technology).

So let it begin, I am looking forward to any comments you may have!
